Cricket in America

I say!

Is it not wonderful that the great game of cricket will soon be very popular in the USA?

A wealthy chap called Allen Stanford is publicising the great game in the States. It will surely only be a mater of time before Americans can appreciate cricket!

Allen is a wonderful lad from Texas. I enjoyed a brief Wadadli in his company down at Third Man, some time back. But how fortunate that he appreciates the world's best competitive game. He built the Stanford Cricket Ground in Antigua and sponsors the 20/20 tournament. Here are some snaps I took of the ground, last year.

As Stanley Unwin would have said..."Deep joy"

And encouraging to note that even hotters has been popularising The Ashes here:

And thanks to the Dangerous Book for Boys, which explained the rules to me for the first time, even I found myself enjoying the camera work in a recent match. I think it may have been Aus v India.

On another matter. If you hear from Brian Wilson, please convey my sympathies.

The Twenty20 form of the glorious game of cricket, which Allen Stanford is promoting, is an extremely fast-moving and exciting format.

Here's an interesting website which gives more details about the more traditional format. I was informed about his website by K, who resides in the USA and is a recent convert to the game.

Here's another wonderful explanation, specifically for people in America. This was also sent to be by K.

No, this is not an advertising gimmick. The great game will soon be taking off in the USA. I believe they may at first target areas in the USA where there are many people with West Indian connections.

I say Rob - I did indeed see Brian Wilson, in fact, we stayed with him for a few days, and he was most grateful for your comment.
